40 bags in 40 days

I was reading other people's blogs the other day, and I came across this 40 bags in 40 days challenge from Clover Lane.

While I am not catholic, I have always been intrigued by the idea of challenging yourself to give up something - or to do something different for lent.

Now I could proclaim that I am going to give up chocolate for 40 days, and I know that there are people out there, who would find that incredibly challenging.  Problem is, I only eat chocolate about 3 times a year.  It's not something I "need"....

However, this idea of getting rid of 40 bags in 40 days is right up my alley.  I'm not sure, if the original challenge calls for 1 bag/day, but that's just not possible for me.  On days when I work - and teach, there is just not enough time to attack a clutter spot.  Today, I'd already be 5 bags behind - and over it.

So, it's 40 bags in 40 days - however many bags it is a day - and whatever size the bag is.  It may be a Kroger bag one day, and a suitcase the next.  As long as it's getting rid of clutter, it's all good!

The challenge started last night - with magazines...

I don't even know why I have them.  It's not like I have time to read them.....

But it probably makes me feel like a domesticated woman to have "Good housekeeping" and the like in the house.  Who knows, maybe these people will eventually solve my space and time problem by publishing "the idea" that finally does the trick and turns me into wonder woman.

But for right now - they're falling victim to decluttering.  Of course, I'll have to go through them first.  Who knows, there may be an article that could become a future blog post...

I think I may have to limit the time I get to spend with these - or else it will be 40 magazines in 40 days....

  1. You should take your used magazines to Half Price Books and exchange them for cash! Or you could donate them to the library.

Love your idea of forty bags in forty days! What a creative way to declutter!

  2. Thanks for the ideas, Laura. I have tried half-priced books before - and they only want the current ones. I had never even thought about the library.

Here is what I do, though: I take a small stack at a time - and I distribute them in laundromats, Dr's office waiting rooms etc., just anyplace where people may need something to read while they're sitting around. Of course, I always ask permission first :-)
